Steeped in Asheville Culture

Asheville Event Center Owner KathyOur amazing owner Katherine Corn and her late husband Bob Corn started the famous to Carolinian’s and beyond, IWANNA Classified Newspaper, launching it at their small kitchen table and using an old VW Beetle to make deliveries.

Their very first edition came out in April 1976 and the concept of free classified ads caught on like wildfire with their then tiny- 4 page newspaper experiencing phenomenal growth with every passing day.

Bob CornThe Corn family bought a building and a printing press, expanded their staff, and began thinking about growth. What was once a “tiny paper” quickly became the largest and most widely read weekly shopping guide serving Western North Carolina, Western Piedmont and Upstate South Carolina, growing from the initial 4 pages to over 300 page issues with thousands of classified and display ads.

Following the passing of her beloved husband Bob, Katherine eventually decided to sell the IWANNA but the ingenious mind of Katherine kept on turning. Becoming a huge ballroom dance enthusiast Katherine Corn started the Asheville Ballroom which has now grown into the exceptional venue Asheville Event and Dance Centre that we are today, offering upscale ambiance, eye-catching custom décor, and exciting energy for all your corporate meetings, private events, and dance needs!
